Amitabha Empowerment TOP
Buddha
Amitabha
(Buddha of boundless light) is one of the
Five Dhyāni
Buddhas
who is associated with the western direction and the
skandha
of saṃjñā (perception). There are many
histories of how the historical Buddha first cultivated bodhicitta and then
studied and practiced while meeting countless buddhas. Each time he met a
different Buddha, he reinforced his bodhicitta. Seeing the immeasurable
suffering in samsara, great and powerful compassion grew. When he appeared as
bodhisattva bhishu Darmakara, he made a special aspiration from among the 500
types of aspiration that he would accomplish bodhicitta and benefit sentient
beings. in particular, he focused on creation of his pure land, Dewachen (in
Sanskrit Sukhavati). He said, “Even those who have not achieved bhumis can be
reborn in my pure land. They can make this connection simply by hearing my name
and developing devotion.” With this kind of great motivation, he practiced
bodhicitta for countless kalpas, perfected his great aspirations, and finally
attained Buddhahood. This empowerment is an important preparation for the Phowa
practice (the transference of the consciousness at the moment of death) which
can enable us to reach Amitabha’s Pureland.

The Great Drikung Phowa TOP
Part 1. Amitabha Teaching, kl. 9:00 - 11:00
The Four Causes to be Reborn in
Dewachen (Sukhavati)
1.
Visualization of Pure Realm of Buddha Amitabha and his Refuge Tree
2.
Accumulation of merits and purification of negativities
3.
Company of friends who have developed the enlightened mind
4.
Entirely pure aspiration prayers
Even though we have this precious human
life, and have encountered the Buddha’s teachings, samsara has so much
suffering- the suffering of birth, aging, sickness and death. We do not get what
we want but we get what we do not want. See that nature. sometimes, we do not
notice, but we are actually suffering all the time. Therefore, we should make
the effort to be reborn in Amitabha’s pureland.
Great Drikung Phowa
Phowa or transference of consciousness to Buddha
Amitabha’s pure realm at the time of death’ is the simplest and most direct
method to attain enlightenment. One of the Six Yogas of Naropa, there are many
marvelous Phowa instructions, in different Tantra texts of new and old lineages.
However, the Drikung Phowa lineage, whose Tibetan name "Jaktshukma" means "the
standing grass blade," is one of the most powerful and precious Phowa practices
still taught and practiced today. Phowa Jagtsukma instructions of transfer to
the pure land of Dewachen is included in the Terma of ancient secret mantra
lineage, which was rediscovered, and propagated a few hundred years later, and
are presently upheld in an unbroken lineage through the Drikung masters.

Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) Teaching and Empowerment TOP
Guru
Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) has influenced countless beings through the
Vajrayana teachings and in particular through the activity of the profound terma
treasures. This great master was not an ordinary being but rather an emanation
of both Buddha Amitabha and Shakyamuni who appeared in order to tame human
beings and spirits who are difficult to tame. In the Dharmakaya realm of the
Luminous Vajra Essence, Guru Rinpoche has attained perfect enlightenment since
the very beginning as the liberated ground of primordial purity. He is renowned
as the original protector, Unchanging Light. In the self-manifest sambhogakaya
realm of the Thunder of the Drum of Perfection, he spontaneously manifested as
the boundless wisdom array of the five families of Buddha Immense Ocean
possessing the five certainties. As the external manifestation of this
self-appearing display, in the countless displays of bodily forms on
Buddha-fields of the five families comprised of the natural nirmanakaya realms
of Mahabrahma, he appears to all the bodhisattvas on the ten bhumis. Since these
all are the cloud of Guru Rinpoche’s wisdom display, the “inexhaustible wheel of
adornment”, he is known as the All-Holding Lotus. By the power of these wisdom
displays, he appears in countless worlds of the ten directions as the magical
apparition of nirmanakayas who tame beings. It is taught that only in this saha
world system he illuminates fifty worlds with the lamp of the teachings of sutra
and tantra appearing as the eight manifestations to tame beings in the different
parts of the world.

His Eminence the 8th Kyabje Garchen Triptrul Rinpoche's short biography
TOP
Born in Eastern Tibet in 1937, the 8th Kyabje Garchen
Triptrul Rinpoche was the incarnation of a 12th century highly realized yogi
named Gar Chodingpa, one of the heart disciples of the famed Jigten Sumgon,
Kyobpa Rinpoche – founder of the Drikung Kagyu lineage that traces back to the
translator Marpa Lotsawa and greatest poet-yogi of Tibet by the name of
Milarepa. Garchen Rinpoche is also considered to be the emanation of Aryadeva,
the lotus-born heart disciple of the great Nargajuna Bodhisattva.
Rinpoche was recognized as a reincarnated lama at the
age of seven by Drikung Kyabgon Rinpoche, Shiwe Lodro, the 36th holder of the
Drikung Kagyu lineage. Then, at the age of 22, soon after Rinpoche completed 2
and a half years of sealed retreat, Tibet was invaded by China. Following the
war, Garchen Rinpoche was imprisoned for almost twenty years. It was in prison
that he met his root lama, the great Khenpo Munsel, and practiced diligently in
secret until signs of realization spontaneously appeared. Through twenty years
of imprisonment and hardships, Rinpoche was able to transform his body, speech
and mind and emerged as a selfless master of vast compassion and wisdom.
Following his release from the prison, Rinpoche had
worked tirelessly to rebuild his monastery in the Gar village, as well as many
other monasteries in the greater area of Eastern Tibet. For a period of ten
years, it was said that Garchen Rinpoche did not lie down to sleep at night.
Rinpoche would sit on a low table to meditate throughout the night and if he
were too tired and sleepily felt down from the table, he would get up and
climbed back onto the table to continue with his meditation.
Rinpoche is known as a master of vast love and
compassion with the sole wish to benefit all beings without exception. He was
highly revered not only by masters and disciples of his own lineage but also
masters and disciples of other traditions as well. He always holds a prayer
wheel in his hand, continuously spins the wheel to pray for, and to radiate
compassionate energy to benefit all beings. The great compassionate Tara is
Garchen Rinpoche’s main yidam deity and his aspiration is to follow in her
footsteps to bring love and compassion to all. He is devoted to travel around
the world to teach the Dharma, especially the infallible law of karma cause and
effect and the essence teachings of the Thirty-Seven Practices of Bodhisattvas,
a commentary written by the Bodhisattva Ngulchu Thogme Zangpo.
