Interpreting
- Consecutive interpreting in Swedish law courts (district courts,
county administrative courts, Svea Court of Appeal, Sundsvall Administrative
Court of Appeal, the Labour Court and the Supreme Court), for the police,
for law firms and for depositions. Legal interpreting work has included
both criminal cases (everything from petty theft to murder) and civil
proceedings (ranging from unpaid debts to patents).
Also, interpreting assignments for other authorities, e.g. social services,
job centres, driving test centres and the health services.
- Simultaneous interpreting at conferences, seminars and other
meetings (e.g. relating to the environment, health and safety at work,
travel, construction, insurance, furniture, financial services and trade
union affairs). Also (on a voluntary basis) for church services (Uppsala
Baptist Church).
Related work
I have frequently been engaged as a language expert by the Swedish National
Board of Trade, and subsequently by the Legal, Financial and Administrative
Services Agency, to assist with authorization examinations for Swedish-English
interpreters and legal interpreters.
Around 1986 I was responsible for compiling the English entries in the
book 755 svenska organisationer på fyra språk, which gives translations
of the names of a wide range of Swedish organizations.
Before becoming a translator, I worked for over a year as a part-time
proof-reader on the newspaper Upsala Nya Tidning.
