Iced Earth is an american band, and they play a very thrash-oriented metal, many power metal
fans like em but they shouldn't be associated with that genre cause their music isn't based
on silly melodies and corny lyrics/choruses, but some great riffs and a rather heavy/thrashy
sound.
This is their second album and in my opinion (don't be shocked now), it's their best. I never
complain on Schaffer's guitar work especially not here, and since he usually writes most of
the material he should be credited for all of these solid songs. The vocalist, John Greely,
is also doing a great job (don't get me wrong I think Matt Barlow is a technically better
singer but the bands' best material is here), anyways he has a lovely clean voice but is
also capable of some astonishing growling (not really death metal-), and sometimes a wonderful
high pitched scream comes out of his vocal cords. Although on "Stormrider" Mr Schaffer himself
is singing, which gives the vocals a darker kind of style.
Simply a masterpiece, don't miss this.
