Le monache di Sant'Arcangelo (The Nuns of Sant Arcangelo / Domenico Paolella 1973) and Interno di un convento (Behind Convent Walls / Walerian Borowczyk 1977) deal with nuns going hysterical with sexual desires only to end up before the inquisition (both films are based on a novel by Stendhal). The marvellous Suor omicidi (Killer Nun / Giulio Berruti 1978) is a giallo where drug-addicted sister Anita Ekberg may also be a man-hating killer. Bruno Mattei's L'altro inferno (The Other Hell, 1980) mixes nunsploitation with satanic horror. A similar motif is found in the British-Russian production Dark Waters (Mariano Baino 1993).
Crazy nuns can also be found in quite a few non-Italian films: Häxan (Benjamin Christensen 1922), The Devils (Ken Russell 1971), Entre tinieblas (Dark Habits / Pedro Almodóvar 1983), Agnes of God (Norman Jewison 1985) and of course Jess Franco's Die Liebesbriefe einer portugiesischen Nonne (Love Letters of a Portuguese Nun, 1976).
