Here’s a news update on the music section.

I’ve started making some songs that could work in a movie later on but these are just experimental. What I’m trying to find out here is how to make the music discrete and how to make it fit in with the movie. Tobias listened to one over the phone, and his comment was "sounds like something from Super Mario Bros.", why thank you friend! Another problem is how you make the music match the movies different events. I guess you’ll have to do some kind of timeline scoring.

As for the real composing I’ve done a new piece now. I found some nice samples from an Hawxtar album I have. Nik Turner (Hawkwind) reads the poem "The great sun jester", this became a really great voice sample after some editing. When I got all the pieces together it became a rather pleasant experience to hear. The track is far from ready, I’ve still got some serious work to do.

Time for another progress report, I started doing the abdomen of the alien. And here's the picture.

I'd say that the ball has started to roll as I'm really into modeling the alien right now. I'm going away for the weekend and don't know exactly when I'll be back. I'll be taking my computer with me so there should be some really good news in about a week.

Joel played me another song over the phone which sounded pretty good, aside from the fact that he called me around two o'clock in the middle of the night...

Progress report on the alien, here is a picture of my progress can be viewed here , and here is a picture of the alien in lightwave.

I'm currently working on the upper body in general. I modeled the rib cage first as this is what holds everything together. I'll probably continue on the arms while i'm at it, and they just seem the most fun at the moment. I'm working on an alien page where i'll describe the modeling process in more detail. Expect the new page to be up in a few days.

Well I'm off to bed now, got to get up early in the morning.

If your curious I've found an apartment an I'm moving in on June 13, yay!

You can disregard my previous post about the progress of the alien. And here's why:

After posting the message below, I started Lightwave again and compared the two models. And I realized I liked the old head more, it may not be true to the movies, but somehow I managed to capture a certain "feel". It just looks more menacing, how it turned out this way I don't know, just call it luck. So the next step is going to be the upper body.

You may be wondering what I'm going to use the alien for, and if your not I'll tell you anyway. After this summer Joel and I will hopefully be enrolled in the same multimedia class. There we will probably have access to some more equipment than we have now, which is basically nonexistent. So our aim is to make a little movie using 3D-graphics (the alien), blue screens to some extent and have the alien rip us to shreds.

Our goal is to use the movie so that Joel and I will learn a few techniques: Matching real camera movement with a virtual camera in lightwave, compositing 3D graphics into video, matching music to acting and how to utilize a blue screen to name a few.

No update on the Alien, sorry. I have modeled on it today, but I didn't think the progress was anything worth posting, picture wise that is. When I make some real progress you will be the first to know.

A slight update to my post below, It seems that the Matrox G400 is a great card. It seems that it's rivaling the TNT2 actually, even though it hurts a little to say that ;)

Some of you may be using our new domain name, tincan.txe.org. All I can say is thanks to TXE for the great service!

Guess what tomorrow is... It's 3D modeling day!!! That's right, nothing can hinder me from spending the entire day modeling. So the Sunday deadline still stands, and if you don't see an update then don't sue me, I can't afford it (and you wouldn't win anyway).

And now for a little tech talk.

My plans for future hardware are a dvd drive and maybe a TNT 2. If I buy one, I'll probably buy the other. The dvd drive will probably be a matsushita, they know what there doing and mostly every drive you buy is licensed from them anyway.

For the TNT2 it'll be an ASUS V-3800, why? Well I'll tell you, It uses the TNT2 Ultra chip which is faster and will give me good FPS in mostly anything. It has video In/Out and 3D glasses, what more could I want. It also has Mpeg-2 decoding, also know as DVD. The only thing bad about it is that uses sg-ram, which can't be overclocked that much but it's a little faster than sd-ram. Not like I overclock anything anyway, but it would be nice to have the option.

I've also read allot of anti TNT2, pro Voodoo3 talk on the net, mostly at the Q3arena.com messageboard. Mostly these people are comparing the V3 benchmarks at 16-bit color, to a TNT2 running at 32-bit. Not a fair comparison to say the least. What no benchmark will show is a company's attitude.

Nvidia deliver new cards, with major advances in visual quality and speed. The TNT-2 is fast, looks good (on screen, not the card) and has great support for other usage's than playing games. To name a few: 32-bit color, higher resolutions, textures can be up to 2048x2048 pixels, and it has a OpenGL ICD (fully supports OpenGL).

3Dfx has delivered four chips, the Voodoo1 and 2, the Banshee and the Voodoo3. The V1 and V2 were good cards, the V2 still is even though it is getting dated. The Banshee is basically a V2 with a 2D chip so you only need one card, but it hardly supports glide games and doesn't have OpenGL. The V3 is just more speed, no advances in any other area. It still uses the texture size 512x512, only supports 16-bit color, many of today's games use huge res textures and 32-bit color to give a better gaming experience. Also 3Dfx has yet to deliver any kind of OpenGL support, one of the things I can't live with out.

All-righty then! Nothing much going on on the 3D front, real life has gotten in the way. I'm going to move to a different city in a couple of weeks, so finding an apartment has been a full time job.

Also my computer has been giving me hell. Every now and then when I'm doing something that's graphically intensive, my computer will slow down, and the power light will start blinking. And I just got the damn thing this winter!!! What's wrong with the world.

I'm going to return my computer for repairs on Tuesday, o between Tuesday and whenever there won't be any updates to this page. Oh well, I'll just have to agonize my neighbors by playing Jimi Hendrix, very loudly of course...

The music section is now online! It contains a "kit-list" and Joel explains in short what he uses everything for.

Star Wars : The Phantom Menace has now been released in theaters in the USA. We here in Sweden have to wait until August, but I can wait.

I read over on E-bay that some fool had bought four tickets for the first showing in a theater in Manhattan (New York) for a huge amount of money. You won't believe how much he paid, so here it goes... 2 millions dollars. That's right, 2 million. I'm speechless, when you thought that people couldn't get dumber...

Unfortunately the page has been removed from E-bay, so you'll just have to take my word for it.

And I have a little confession to make.
Today I was in a music store and tried a Epiphone Les Paul Standard, for you who don't know it's like Gibson Les Paul expect that it is manufactured in Japan and not hand made. For those who are still lost, it's a guitar. The confession is this, it is not worse than a Gibson. After a few seconds I was blown away by the sound and completely forgot that it was supposed to be "worse". Still, I wouldn't sell my Fender Stratocaster ;-)

As you all may have noticed there isn't that much content on this page right now. I thought I would explain why.

After redesigning the site I decided that the gallery was so old, that it didn't think it reflected my current work. And as the current work is a lot more complex it's not possible to update the gallery that often.

The gallery will be updated though, I can promise you that.

As for the music section...

I got some new great pictures of aliens from Newborn() today (thanks). So now I have great reference for the body so I can get started on that.

I've also started redoing the head from scratch. The previous one was okay but careless modeling from my part and bad planning made it hard to edit. Not to worry though, it shouldn't take me more than three days to get the head finished.

The body is pretty complex, but that just adds to the "damn I'm good" feeling when I'm done ;-)

And I'm still waiting for Joel to send me the music page so we can get that going.

Side note: The sign-up for beta testing Rogue Spear: the sequel to Rainbow Six starts today.

Have a good day...
And if you see a puddle of drool on the ground, run! Y'all know who's hanging from the ceiling.

11 May:03:20 (+1 GMT)

Not much has happened, real life has gotten in the way of my modeling. Soon I'll have a few days off now so I can get some serious work done on the alien.

I made a little investment the other day, I bought the "Alien Saga" box. It contains all four Alien movies in widescreen format and the sound is in THX. I just might go really fanatical and buy the DVD set when it comes out also, depending really on if the cost is worth a few minutes worth of extra scenes.

Site news: I added a little hit counter so I can see how many people have not visited this site ;-)

For anyone out there that doesn't know this, the Quake 3 Test is out for the Win 32 platform. I've played two games online today and it absolutely rocks!!! Even though I have a ping of 300 it still looks great, the earlier trend of players warping around the level from quake 1&2 are now gone.

The new engine is superb, 32-bit rendering, curves, and all the other eye candy makes me stop in wonder every now and then (which is really bad since this usually means I get fragged ;-).

Is there a downside? Unfortunately yes, all the eye candy does get in the way. Half of the time I can't see where my opponents are.

The final verdict, finally the action is getting back to quake1 standard with a facelift. I gotta go, there's a rocket launcher waiting for me.

That's right! The new and improved TpG site is here!!! After going through a few options this is the one I settled for. I like it, if you happen not to like it, feel free to send me an e-mail and tell me what's wrong.

As you may have noticed the gallery is empty right now, that's because I decided to throw out the old and fill it up from scratch.

Hopefully the music section will be filled out by Joel any way now.

Well, that's all for now.
