The Standard Knot "Four-in-Hand"


- Start with the wide end of the tie on your right. Extend it about 12 inches below the narrow end.
- Cross the wide end over the narrow, and back underneath.
- Continue by bringing the wide end around, passing it across the front of the narrow once more.
- Pass the wide end up through the loop.
- Holding the front of the knot loosely with index finger, pass the wide end down through the loop in front.
- Remove finger, and tighten knot. Carefully, draw up tight to collar, holding the narrow end and sliding the knot up snug.
The Manhattan Knot
The Windsor Half-Knot

- Start with the wide end of the tie on your right. Extend it about 12 inches below the narrow end.
- Cross the wide end over the narrow, and turn back underneath.
- Bring the wide end up, and turn down through loop.
- Pass the wide end around to the front from your left to right.
- Bring the wide end up through the loop.
- Pull the wide end through the knot in front. Tighten and draw up to collar.
The (double?) Windsor Knot


- Start with the wide end of the tie on your right. Extend it about 12 inches below the narrow end.
- Cross the wide end over the narrow, and bring it up through the loop.
- Bring the wide end down, around behind the narrow, and up on your right.
- Put this end down through the loop and across the narrow (as shown).
- Turn the wide end, and pass it through the loop.
- Complete the knot by slipping the wide end through the knot in front. Tighten and draw up to collar.
